A reader tells us he bought a new Nikon Coolpix S9500 camera for $345. He asked the salesman “What’s that number in the lower left corner?” It was his elevation above sea level. The salesman then raised the camera over his head and the elevation number went up. “What’s that red arrow?” That’s the compass needle pointing north, he was told. It works with the GPS function. “Why does the number 180 come up when I press a button?” Because you selected panoramic view. When you press start, and begin to turn, it shuts off when you’ve done a half turn. It can also do a 360 or a floor to ceiling shot.
