  1. My Wife’s Lenovo Think Pad has windows 8 (bought several years ago and works great). When they had free upgrade I tried to load Windows 10. Wouldn’t load because is said Microsoft Office wasn’t registered, which it was. So I gave up. Recently Removed all of MS Office products and tried the windows 10 upgrade. went all the way through the program download, OK to restart, but wouldn’t load on the startup. Got some error codes and it went back to windows 8. Any clues to get this loaded. she just use it for her check book and internet stuff which keeps warning her they won’t support windows 8

  2. Try these fixes if you want to see if you can install Windows 10: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/get-help-with-windows-10-upgrade-and-installation-errors-ea144c24-513d-a60e-40df-31ff78b3158a
But there’s good news about Windows 8. Here’s what Microsoft’s tech support says: “You can safely use Windows 8.1 with Windows update turned on till January 2023. Just make sure you have the latest available updates installed.”

Elsewhere I read that “Is There a Difference Between 8 and 8.1?
The answer is no, not really. Windows 8.1 is considered a service pack for Windows 8. This means Windows 8.1 is a part of Windows 8 and is included in that life cycle.”

So if I were her, I’d ignore the warnings. It’s only a problem if she clicks on suspicious links or goes to strange websites. It sounds like she just does basic things on it.
    Great question!
