We haven’t dealt with this subject since the typewriter was invented. (Whatever that is.) We mean printers, my friends. Yes, printers. Those blocky, boxy things that churn out what is paradoxically called hard copy. (How hard can a sheet of paper be?)

At the racetrack the other day, we were amazed to see someone with the same Android phone case we had. It reads “Keep Calm and Carry On,” advice from Winston Churchill during World War II, but applicable to many situations. If we didn’t like that one so much, we’d be tempted by the new PocketPlug case: The PocketPlug is for iPhone only and is a case with a retractable plug. But “Mindsy” is a new site with courses on a wider range of topics, such as using Gmail to become more productive, how to make a video game, and – in case it’s just all too much for you — meditation.

“Curiyo,” from Curiyo.com, is an add-on for Chrome, Firefox or Internet Explorer that lets you click on a word on a web page and get a pop-up with explanations, videos or articles. Say you don’t know the word “graphene.” Click on it and you’ll get a choice of a Wikipedia article, a YouTube video, an image, or a news article. When you’re done, click the “x” to close the pop-up. You don’t leave the web page

We heard from a reader who said his PC is “as slow as a stalled car in a parking lot.” (There’s an image for you.) He said his anti-virus program is running well and it’s a relatively new computer. So what gives? Well, he could call AAA to get his car started but he probably wants to deal with his computer first. If like us, you don’t want to take the time to learn Photoshop but like turning ordinary photos into wacky bits of art, have we got the program for you. It’s Ashampoo Photo Card, and oh boy, is this fun. We put Joy’s sister into a British telephone booth, Joy’s face on a skyscraper, and Bob’s reflection in a mirror above a chest of drawers. We saved the results to disk so we could print them out, but these and dozens of other designs can be emailed, posted on Facebook or shown off on the Ashampoo website.
