Many Facebook apps post items on your page as if they were you. That gets annoying. To stop it, go to Facebook and click the arrow next to the “Home” button. Then choose “privacy settings.” Scroll down to “apps and websites” and click “edit.” Click “remove” to get rid of anything you don’t want.

We got some criticism when we wrote about the Freemake Video Downloader, a free program that saves YouTube videos to your hard drive. It’s technically illegal to download stuff from YouTube, but if it’s just for your private use, it’s unlikely that the techno cops will come knocking at your door.

Storing information on the Internet makes some people nervous. It makes us nervous too. So how about having a private cloud? A “cloud” in computer talk is a storage place for information. Commercial ones for corporations and government tend to be huge. The “my-Ditto” is a book-sized box that can act as your own private cloud. It can handle up to four terabytes of storage if you pay $370 for the maximum capacity. Less capacity costs appropriately less. It has its own Internet address, which means you can access it from any device that can connect to the Internet.

Google Maps now come indoor as well as outdoor. You can get a map that’s the floor plan for an airport, a mall, or retail store. The maps come in on any Android phone or tablet. Just keep zooming till you get there.

Here are some nice tips and tricks from ZDNET. For the whole list you can go to tinyurl.com/zdnet10tricks Lots of Clocks: Now when we click the time indicator in the right-hand corner of our screen, we see our time and the time inSpain where our nephew is an exchange student. To add more clocks, click the time, click on “change date and time.” Then click the “additional clocks” tab. Annoying Sounds: Does your computer make annoying sounds? If it’s not a virus, it’s probably your system sounds. Click the picture of a speaker in the lower right corner of your screen. Then click “mixer” and lower the bar under “system sounds.”

Google TV was roundly criticized when it first came out. Who needs a TV that goes on the Internet? But it’s recently been upgraded to include more apps, and Samsung and LG Electronics are expected to come out with a new version of the connecting box early next year.

TumTiki streams free TV episodes from ABC, NBC, Fox, Food Network, Bravo, FX, Syfy, HGTV, AMC, National Geographic, Oxygen, Comedy Central and TBS. It has a pay-per-view option for the shows that aren’t free. TumTiki is an aggregator; they have all of Hulu.com plus other stuff.
