A new study from SRI International found that using games from PBSKids.org made four and five-year old kids significantly smarter in math. They improved in counting, recognizing shapes and patterns. The games they played, “Cat in the Hat,” “Dinosaur Train,” “Curious George” and “Sid the Science Kid” are all free at PBSKids.org.

TodayIFoundOut.com has fascinating stuff. We looked at why bathing was unpopular in the Middle Ages. (Considered dangerous by some, effete by others.) Queen Isabel of Spain bragged she only bathed twice in her life: at birth and before her wedding. Louis XIV matched her, bath for bath; people said he smelled like a barnyard animal. (He also liked to dance in ballets, wearing only a golden clam shell.) Perfume was popular.

Even though an LED light bulb can last 30,000 hours, compared to 750 to 1000 for an ordinary bulb, we’ve been reluctant to spend $70 on one. The “Lumen TL 800” may change our minds. Very impressive.
