At the racetrack the other day, we were amazed to see someone with the same Android phone case we had. It reads “Keep Calm and Carry On,” advice from Winston Churchill during World War II, but applicable to many situations. If we didn’t like that one so much, we’d be tempted by the new PocketPlug case: The PocketPlug is for iPhone only and is a case with a retractable plug. Instead of having to remember to carry a cable, you can plug your iPhone into the wall. Every so often, a project at Kickstarter.com gets our attention. Kickstarter projects invite the public to chip in with money to help a product get launched. In return they get one of the first units. The “EVO ONE” is a basketball with a digital sensor inside that tells you how to adjust your shot. The micro-sensor weighs less than half an ounce and sits inside the ball. It emits a sound that can be used to judge how good your shot was. In case you’ve been wondering about the coming of “Google Glass,” let us clear the view. Google Glass is the latest in eyewear. Some call it “Google on your face.” So far the only users are a group of beta testers willing to pay $1500 for the privilege. We’re tempted to call this new product “Google Glasses,” but unlike a pair of glasses, there’s no glass, only a tiny viewer (very tiny) attached to one side of the frame. We’ve tried many different wireless speakers for our iPad and the Android phone, but the first one we really liked is “Edge Sound” from CubEdge. It’s a black box shorter than a human hand and weighing just 9 ounces.

The “doxie one” is a portable scanner that needs no computer. Push a button and your piece of paper is digitized and saved to an SD memory card. The device sells for $149 and it can also save the scan directly to the web. The “doxie go” sells for $50 more and runs on a battery.
