“Shred 4” destroys digital files the way a paper shredder destroys paper. It’s a safer way to delete items you don’t want others recovering, since an ordinarily deleted file can be recovered by undelete programs. Shred is $8 from PC Magazine’s utility library at PCMag.com/downloads. Or if you subscribe to the library for $20 a year, you can download hundreds of these Windows apps for free.
