If a program is not immediately compatible with Vista, a little window pops up asking if you want to run this program in “compatibility mode.” You can accept Vista’s recommendations or run the Compatibility Wizard. You can get to the wizard by clicking the “start” button and “help and support.” Then type “compatibility wizard” into the Vista search field.

It worked perfectly for our 9-year-old program on Norman Rockwell and Joy’s Betty Crocker Master Cook program from seven years ago.

Addenda: The most popular new download you can get with Vista Ultimate is Texas Hold’em poker. Joy tried playing on the advanced level and cleared the table after a dozen hands or so. She’s been watching poker on TV.
