nova elements app“Nova Elements,” a free iPad app, takes the periodic table off the wall into an atomic sandbox, where you can play with particles to create your own copper, gold or any one of the other 118 elements. You can then combine them to make molecules. It’s been downloaded over 570,000 times.

Besides building elements, you can make 3D rotating molecules and watch a two-hour Nova special, “Hunting the Elements,” narrated by David Pogue. A game within the app lets you build molecules found in everyday objects, like bananas. (Wait till this goes into a 3D printer.)
