Reading Rainbow is a new iPad app modeled after the former hit TV show for kids. It offers hundreds of children’s books, each of which comes with games, puzzles and special visual effects. The app and the first book are free; after that it’s $10 a month. Children choose categories for their book choices — such as “wizards and fairies,” “pirates,” “princes and princesses” or just “things that go,” such as cars, trains and planes Age groups run at “4 and under” up to “9 and over.” This app may be enough to finally get our youngest relative away from “Plants vs. Zombies.”
