Rethink Books has a new app called “Social Books,” for sharing text from books with friends.

Using this app, when you look at a book on your iPad, Kindle or any similar device, you can see whatever notes you made plus notes made by others. You can see what passages are being discussed and buy your own copy of a book through the friend’s bookshelf. As in Facebook, you can follow others and have them follow you. Each book thus becomes a discussion group.

The first book that can be shared this way is the Harper Collins edition of the Bible. The app is still in beta but you can sign up for it at
