Leanback is a YouTube feature that makes YouTube more like TV. Instead of having to click one of YouTube’s categories, like “most popular,” or figure out something to search for, the videos start playing, just as TV does when you turn it on.

Our first video was a humorous take on the Mayan calendar prediction that the world will end in 2012. A hilarious 16 year-old English girl came on screen to show us how to stock up on a year’s worth of breakfast food. Next came a video about living in a tree house. You can give a thumbs-up or thumbs-down to influence what comes up next.

If you don’t like what you see, just start typing to search for something else. Everything is supposedly tailored to interests you’ve expressed on Facebook and elsewhere.  It’s a little slow if you don’t have a fast broadband connection, because everything’s in high-definition.  Go to YouTube.com/leanback to try it out. We liked it.
