Visioneer has long been one of our favorite scanner makers and their new one is the Strobe 500, which can be either a desktop of portable unit. Push a button and it ejects from a desktop docking station to go with you on the road.

The Strobe 500 has a 20-page automatic document feeder when it’s in desktop mode and scans at 15 pages per minute.  When undocked, the Strobe functions as a single sheet-fed scanner. The front feed slot accepts letters, photos, receipts and plastic cards. The Strobe is $400 from visioneer.com. Bob thinks it’s too expensive, but clever.
