Can you run your old programs on the new Windows 7 operating system? The answer 

is  “yes,”  if  you’re currently using Vista, and “probably,” if  you’re using Windows XP, according to a recent CNET forum.  

To make those pesky XP programs run in  Windows 7, you could use a virtual environment, running XP alongside Windows 7. But that only works if you buy the more expensive version of Windows 7, either “Professional” or “Ultimate.”  

Windows 7 is due in stores October 22.
