You’ve probably seen athletes do the friendly fist-bump when they meet a buddy or after they’ve made a good play. President Barack Obama does it too, and that makes it an officially cool thing to do.

Now, two students in the Business School at the University of Chicago have invented the iPhone Bump. It’s a free application you can download from the iTunes App Store. People who have it need only give each other the closed fist bump to download data from one iPhone or “iPhone Touch” to the other. The bump triggers the motion sensing chips in the phones and turns on their wireless connections; the software then triggers the data transfer.

We don’t know how useful this, but it is super cool as they say. More info, if you need it, is available at BumpTechnologies.com
