GETTING MENTIONED

A small business can use Google Alerts (go to google.com/alerts) to be notified whenever their company or area of expertise is mentioned in the news. Another way to go is a free program called “Mention.”

Mention is smarter than Google Alerts because it learns as it goes. If you tell it you want to track “gold” for example, you would get news about gold fillings as well as gold investments. Strike “gold fillings” from the results and it learns you aren’t that interested in teeth. It gets its news from newspapers and magazines, wire services, websites, forums, Google news, and social networking sites. Get it at mention.net.
