This is a cellphone app so silly we couldn’t resist it. It’s called the “Pocket Doorbell,” and is meant to work with an iPhone or iPad.

Here’s how it’s supposed to work. When you arrive at your friend’s house, the GPS in your phone will locate their name and address from your contacts list. Just press the picture of a doorbell. The app will text or call to say “Hey, I’m here, can you let me in?”

At least that’s the maker’s claim. It didn’t work for us, because it requires a 3G wireless connection on your device; we have a WiFi-only iPad. It should work on all iPhones and iPads with 3G. The app is 99 cents at Apple iTunes or the App store. In case of emergency, you can push the real doorbell.
