TRENDS: IS THAT HDTV CONNECTED TO THE WEB?

Only 25 percent of high definition TVs are connected to the Web right now, but in four years it will be 76 percent, says research firm Parks Associates. That would be more than 150 million units.

Some question that figure, because you don’t have to buy an Internet-ready HDTV to get web services. For a lot less money, you could buy a Blu-Ray player, a Roku box or some other device that streams Netflix movies and other Web content. In a recent Boston-area marketing experiment, none of the families given an Internet- TV liked it as much as regular TV.
