Google released a new version of its “City Tours” which now give walking directions to local sights. We chose two different starting locations in Chicago and noticed that the walking tour recommendations were nearly identical.

You can get better city guides at, which offers free downloads for major cities in the U.S., Europe, Australia and New Zealand. You can click on all points of interest on a map and see information about them along the side. Clicking on the Art Institute in Chicago, we saw basic info regarding prices, hours of operation, etc., plus links to photos of the collections and the museum’s website. The Art Institute has the world’s largest collection of French Impressionist paintings.
