NEWSPAPER PHOTOGRAPHY APPS

chi-gangster-final-ipad-20100602A lot of newspapers and magazines maintain public photo archives and nearly all of them are free. Recently, the Chicago Tribune” released its crime photo archive of “Gangsters and Grifters:” Al Capone and friends on the street and in the lineup. (They also spent a lot of time in Hot Springs, Ark.)

Reuters, the international press syndicate, has some of the most stunning photos we’ve ever seen. The ice sculptures in Harbin, China, are extraordinary (and that’s putting it mildly). Look for the iPad app under “Wider Image.” You can mark any picture as a favorite and form a collection of shots to share, like making a recording of your favorite music. Or go to WiderImage.Reuters.com on your computer.
