SKYPE APP GETS RID OF THE SHAKES

Getting clear video with your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad2 is easier with a new Skype app.

The neatest feature of the new app is image stabilization. This comes close to duplicating the “steady cam” software used professionally with handheld cameras. We looked at two videos, one using the image stabilization and one without, and the app made a big difference. If you’re holding your iPad to show the street scene around you, and using the rear camera to do this, the picture is typically very shaky. The new app helps cure this. Video quality was much better than the built-in Apple app, “Face Time.”

On first use the Skype app has ads, but they aren’t intrusive. You won’t see any if you’ve bought Skype credits for calling non-Skype users. (They’re cheap.)
