PUTTING YOUR MARK ON THE MAP

Google Map Maker

This month we’re going to a horse farm somewhere in Maryland. Google Maps listed the location only as coordinates, with no other details. But soon we will be able to clarify its location by adding new information through “Google Map Maker.”

Map Maker lets you suggest changes at maps.google.com. A review committee looks over the suggestions, and if they accept them, the changes go in for all to see. Some examples suggested by people at Google: You might know a short cut on a college campus, a good bike trail, a good place for wild flowers, a camping site and so on.

The rest of the world had this feature before the U.S. because there were so many unmapped areas. But now we’re getting it to make Google maps better. Go to mapmaker.google.com.
