Nearly one-fifth of American households with Internet connections use that service to watch television online. That is double the proportion from a year ago. A study by the non-profit Conference Board research group (Conference-Board.org) found that the most watched channel is YouTube.com, followed by the home channel of their favorite TV station’s home page. Forty-three percent of these viewers use the Internet to watch the news; 39 percent watch drama and 16 percent view sports events. The most common reason given for watching a broadcast online is that they want to watch on their own schedule, not that of the broadcasting station. Interestingly, 15 percent said they watch Internet shows while they’re at the office.
